Here’s all of this week’s essential reading for England supporters.

Raheem Sterling is the man of the moment, having found form for England and scored a ton of goals in Manchester City’s treble season. Daniel Storey’s excellent feature for Football365 deservedly singles him out for praise.

The classic Englandneworder song ‘World In Motion’ was released 29 years ago this week and became the legendary sound of England at FIFA World Cup Italia ’90. Five years ago our own David Hartrick wrote an excellent long-read delving into the story of the song.

FIFA has thankfully scrapped its plan to expand its scandal-riddled winter World Cup in 2022, sticking with a nice, symmetrical 32-team tournament after a feasibility study made the idea of 48 teams look fucking silly. David Conn has the story.

Elsewhere, the issue of overseas player quotas has come up again. Sean Ingle of The Observer reported on Gareth Southgate’s concern that the percentage of English players in the Premier League in 2028 could be as low as 15%.

The last word this week belongs to Football365 editor Sarah Winterburn, who thinks Liverpool and England right back Trent Alexander-Arnold could be the Premier League’s next one-club man. And she’s right.
