Gareth Southgate has named his England squad for the UEFA Nations League finals in Portugal in June.
The coach has picked 27 players initially before the squad is whittled down to 23 for England’s semi-final against the Netherlands in Guimaraes on Thursday 6th June.
The third-fourth play-off and the final will be played on Sunday 9th June. The other semi-final is between Portugal and Switzerland.
Southampton attacker Nathan Redmond has been called up and there are returns for Fabian Delph and Jesse Lingard, along with UEFA Champions League final contenders Joe Gomez and Harry Winks.
Embed from Getty ImagesWinks’ Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Harry Kane has been included as he works towards a return from injury.
There’s no Luke Shaw - Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose are preferred at left back - but in general this is a squad that looks settled and offers few surprises, especially considering Southgate’s clarification that injured Chelsea duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi would have been called up.
Calls for the inclusion of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and James Maddison continue to be blocked by the abundant quality at Southgate’s disposal but there will almost certainly be changes in the coming weeks.
