With the international break in the rear-view, here’s what England’s players have been up to in club football over the weekend just gone.

Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United

Saturday’s early Premier League match was The Roberto Firmino Show, with Trent Alexander-Arnold playing 90 minutes and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain getting 75 minutes respectively in their supporting roles.

Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1 Burnley

Burnley grabbed a point in stoppage time against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex, where Nick Pope, James Tarkowski and Lewis Dunk all played the full game.

Manchester United 1-0 Leicester City

The highly anticipated meeting of top six contenders Manchester United and Leicester City was something of a damp squib, with Marcus Rashford scoring the only goal from the penalty spot.

That means there was a clean sheet for Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka but not for Ben Chilwell. They, like James Maddison, played the full 90 minutes.

Sheffield United 0-1 Southampton

James Ward-Prowse was on the winning side as Southampton took all three points against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur were in fine fettle in their 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace. England captain Harry Kane teed up Erik Lamela for the fourth goal and was substituted late along with Danny Rose.

Harry Winks played three quarters of the game and, like Rose, was booked in the middle.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-5 Chelsea

Tammy bloody Abraham, ladies and gentlemen. The Chelsea striker scored three times against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday - and once for them, according to the most ridiculous labeling of an own goal imaginable.

Abraham showed his instinct, then his aerial ability, then his explosive speed and skill in an exemplary hat-trick that was book-ended by wonderful, very different goals by fellow English youngsters Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount.

They both played the full 90-plus minutes while Abraham was replaced after 77. Ross Barkley played 20 minutes after his customary Mateo Kovacic switch.

Norwich City 3-2 Manchester City

Injury-hit Norwich City gave champions Manchester City a lesson at Carrow Road on Saturday, and England Under-21 newcomer Todd Cantwell scored their second goal.

City’s hapless defence featured Kyle Walker and John Stones, while Raheem Sterling was unable to have the kind of impact now expected of him at the other end.

AFC Bournemouth 3-1 Everton

England striker Callum Wilson headed in AFC Bournemouth’s opener and added the third with a tidy lobbed finish in a 3-1 home win over Everton.

He played the full 90 minutes, as did the Everton trio of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Fabian Delph, who added a yellow card to his generously proportioned collection.

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

There was a clean sheet for Tyrone Mings and goalkeeper Tom Heaton as Aston Villa laboured to a frustrating goalless draw against West Ham United, for whom Declan Rice racked up another neat and tidy 90 minutes.

Real Sociedad 2-0 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid’s flawless start to the La Liga season hit the rocks at Real Sociedad, where England’s Kieran Trippier played the full match and picked up a yellow card.

Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund returned to form on Saturday thanks to three second-half goals against Bayer Leverkusen. Jadon Sancho claimed an assist for the first of those, setting up Marco Reus to make it 2-0.
