Former England striker Peter Crouch has retired from football. This affectionate farewell from The Guardian‘s Paul Wilson describes him as an “affable beanpole” who “was admired up and down the country for making the absolute best of an unusual skill-set.”
20-year-old Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge. The new deal runs until 2024 and signals the Blues’ faith in the player, who spent last season on loan at Derby County under new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
Finally, former England man Daniel Sturridge has certainly been in the headlines this summer despite the current status of his career being of absolutely no note whatsoever. The latest headline is that the FA is unhappy that he’s only been banned for two weeks for breaching betting rules.
